This was too much-powerful, very evocative. Suddenly I was 22 again, however briefly. I was afraid they’d end with Altamont, but they found another–perfect, I think–way to come to the end of 1969.

inspired, inspiring, and, as Thomas Edison said, perspiring–this represents so much work that it is unimaginable. The musicality of the transitions between songs, let alone their laser-beam aptness to the voice material with which they are juxtaposed, are so perfectly done, they are small miracles in themselves. I work in this medium and I totally forgot about any professional or technical observations and became utterly absorbed. This is the opposite of easy. The seemingly free-form flow of the “narrative” evokes the sense of the moment, while effortlessly leading the listener on an deftly-planned journey, one that, not incidentally illuminates the present as much as the past. I’ve listened to this three times, and played numerous segments for friends, and it grows with repeated hearings. If another Voyager-like satellite is ever sent to the stars with cultural artifacts intended to introduce our species and planet to other sentient beings, this piece is in the capsule.

Most of all, perhaps, I felt like I wasn’t alone in the way I perceived this moment in time through the lens of present memory, and that, by extension, I wasn’t alone in this world.

Thank you.

Wow !!! What a great production ! I was at the 40th reunion at woodstock last year. This program would have been great to air on the grounds before the bands played. This sent me back to 1969 and great memories and sad ones also. Thank You for this broadcast.

Peace,
Mike

Hey Peter…Bill St. James was telling me yesterday how great this particular Shortcut was, so I had to check it out. And naturally he was right. Damn, this is good! Hope all is well with you. Glad I got to see you last spring.
